About Us
The International Cultural Exchange was founded by Dr. R. U. Hingorani in 1949. The first President was the late Countess of Mountbatten of Burma. It is a non-political, non-profit making organisation with no endowment, dedicated to promoting understanding between different nations and cultures. After his death in 1986, The Exchange was newly formed and is a Company limited by guarantee with charitable status, run by a Council of Management under the Presidency of a serving Peer and formed with the intention of broadening the original charitable endeavours regardless of race or creed to include medical and educational help, relief of poverty and exchange of knowledge to underdeveloped nations. Dinners are held in the House of Lords hosted by our new President The Lord West of Spithead, following the death of Baroness Henig and was preceded Viscount Allenby. We welcome members of the Diplomatic Missions and Distinguished Citizens and to promote exchange of views. Emphasis is placed on encouraging guests from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds to attend. Funds are raised from these dinners and charitable events enabling The Exchange to send funds throughout the world (list provided). In essence The Exchange builds up these funds to support small local projects which are unlikely to attract the larger charities, but which have a targeted effect on the local community receiving our support. It is more of a ‘HAND UP’ than a ‘HAND OUT’ from a very ‘HANDS ON’ charity.
